The failure characteristics around shallow buried tunnels under rainfall conditions

چکیده

The instability of weak surrounding rock around shallow buried tunnels induced by rainfall is a challenge for tunnel engineering and threatens construction safety. To reveal the influence on tunnel, results experiments failure under different intensities durations using self-developed test system are presented. First, stress seepage behaviors were analysed, showed that increased while pore water pressure decreased as intensity decreased. It was more difficult to maintain vault collapse increased, particle erosion in model intensified duration increased. change greater than stress, but pressures influenced each other during rainfall. at top two sides because channels developed collapsed easily due smaller stresses. According phenomena observed test, evolution progressive roughly divided into eight stages: stability, drop, continuous flow, partial collapse, mud mixture, throughgoing massive gushing. Furthermore, final pattern consists an excavation disturbance zone, damage zone zone. This research helps conditions can be used reference designing disaster prevention strategies practical engineering.

Soil-Structure Interaction of Buried Pipes Under Cyclic Loading Conditions

The safety of lifelines, as the most important urban facilities, under different conditions highly depends on the safe design and performance of these buried structures. This cannot be achieved unless their actual behaviors are well understood and considered at the designing stage. A new physical model was developed in Amirkabir University of Technology to study the behavior of buried pipes und...

The Effects of Shallow Tunnels on Nearby Structures

Nowadays, underground structures play vital role in developing different countries. Such structures are constructed in many civil activities such as development of road and railways, subways, water, gas and sewage lines, underground subways, nuclear wastes land filling, fuel storage and military installations. With an appropriate drilling method being selected, instabilities created in tunnels ...

Settlement Behavior of Shallow Foundations in Unsaturated Soils under Rainfall

Shallow foundations are often situated on unsaturated zones above the groundwater table. In this study, the influence of rainfall infiltration on the settlement behavior of shallow foundations was investigated using numerical analyses. The numerical solutions were compared with experimental data from in-situ load tests. The relative importance of rainfall intensities and groundwater table posit...

Performance-Based Seismic Assessment of Shallow Tunnels Using Pushover Analysis

Investigation of Rainfall-Runoff Processes and Soil Moisture Dynamics in Grassland Plots under Simulated Rainfall Conditions

The characteristics of rainfall-runoff are important aspects of hydrological processes. In this study, rainfall-runoff processes and soil moisture dynamics at different soil depths and slope positions of grassland with two different row spacings (5 cm and 10 cm, respectively, referred to as R5 and R10) were analyzed, by means of a solution of rainfall simulation experiments. Bare land was also ...
